Alstom signs contract for 10 new Aventra trains for London’s Elizabeth line

June 14, 2024 – Alstom SA (Paris: ALSO), a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has signed a contract worth around €430 (£370) million for 10 new nine-car Aventra trains for Transport for London’s Elizabeth line, along with associated maintenance until 2046.

Opened in 2022, the Elizabeth line continues to experience passenger demand ahead of predictions and its current 70-strong fleet of Alstom-built Aventra Class 345 trains would be insufficient to meet demand later this decade and through the 2030s.

Like the rest of the fleet, the additional Aventra electric multiple unit (EMU) passenger trains will be built at Alstom’s Derby Litchurch Lane Works, the only UK facility that designs, engineers, builds and tests trains for domestic and export markets.

Fiji Airways releases statement about incident aboard flight FJ870

It is with deep regret that we inform you of an incident that occurred on our flight FJ870 from Nadi to San Francisco this morning.

A passenger, a 41-year-old male U.S. citizen, encountered a medical condition approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes prior to the aircraft’s arrival at San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

Despite the best efforts of our cabin crew and a doctor on board who provided immediate assistance, the passenger unfortunately passed away.

Our flight crew promptly declared a medical emergency, and we were given priority for landing by the SFO authorities. Fiji Airways ground operations and the relevant authorities were informed in advance and were prepared to meet the aircraft upon arrival.

The flight landed safely at San Francisco a short while ago. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.

We commend our cabin crew and the assisting doctor for their swift and professional response to this emergency.

Fiji Airways remains committed to the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew, and we are cooperating fully with the authorities as they manage this situation.
