SWISS to serve new European destinations in Summer 2024

SWISS will be making further additions to its short-haul route network in its 2024 summer schedules. Service between Zurich and Bremen will be newly offered in summer, too. Oslo will be added to the Geneva-based network; and the existing Geneva destinations of Copenhagen and Stockholm will also be newly served in the summer timetable period.

Bremen, which already enjoys winter SWISS service from Zurich, will now see this continued in the summer timetable period. The North German city boasts an Old Town and historic sights such as the Roland Statue and its fabled Town Musicians, along with a lively arts and culture scene. Attractively located on the River Weser and further featuring extensive shopping and dining options, Bremen is a truly appealing travel destination.

As previously announced, Cluj-Napoca and Košice will also newly join the SWISS short-haul network in summer 2024. Elsewhere, further frequencies will be added between Zurich and various existing European destinations including Alicante, Madrid, Naples, Venice and Vilnius.

New Oslo service from Geneva

Oslo will be added next summer to SWISS’s Geneva network. The Norwegian capital offers visitors a winning blend of contemporary architecture, green parks and cultural highlights such as its famed Opera House. The city is also attractively close to nature – fjords, forests and more – and features a lively culinary scene.

SWISS will also be providing new summer services on its existing Geneva-Copenhagen and Geneva-Stockholm routes. Copenhagen delights with its impressive mix of modern Scandinavian design, historic architecture and relaxed waterside ambience, while Stockholm boasts a picturesque site spread over 14 islands, well-preserved royal palaces and historic Old Town lanes. SWISS travellers will further be offered more frequencies between Geneva and the existing destinations of Athens, Brindisi, Brussels, Catania, Malaga, Palma and Valencia in the 2024 summer schedules.

South African Airways expands partnership with SunExpress

Johannesburg, South Africa – South African Airways (SAA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SunExpress (a joint venture of Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines), to support the national carrier’s operations with four aircrafts in the 2024/2025 financial year.

The MoU is an add-on to the current six-month damp lease agreement, which was started in October this year and include the lease of two Boeing 737-800’s as well as maintenance and cockpit crew. The MoU was signed by SunExpress CEO Max Kownatzki and SAA CEO Prof. John Lamola at a joint press event in Johannesburg, on Thursday, 14th December 2023.

In addition to plans to increase the number of damp lease aircraft, SAA and SunExpress are currently exploring options for a multi-year reciprocal capacity support and further cooperation with regards to maintenance, training and commercial support.

Hahn Air partners with Air Moana

Hahn Air welcomes Air Moana in its leading partner portfolio. Its flights are available in major GDSs under the Hahn Air Technologies X1 code. Travel agents in 190 markets worldwide can book the domestic airline from French Polynesia via the standard reservation process and issue tickets on the insolvency-safe HR-169 document.

Air Moana is a domestic carrier based at Papeete Faa’a Airport (PPT) in French Polynesia. It was founded in 2021 and it currently serves seven destinations with a fleet of two ATR72-600 aircraft.

Embraer doubles service center capacity by expanding maintenance and customer support

Embraer is expanding with 3 additional MRO facilities in Texas, Ohio, and Florida

Melbourne, Florida, December 20, 2023 – Embraer (NYSE: ERJ) announced today that it is doubling its maintenance service capacity in the United States, to support the continued growth of its executive jets’ customer base through the addition of three Executive Aviation Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities in Dallas Love Field, TX, Cleveland, OH, and Sanford, FL.

Embraer will also substantially increase its Mobile Response network by 28 teams, and enlarge its capabilities including access to interior services, paint, and component repairs as part of this expansion. Service at these locations is set to begin in the second quarter of 2024. Embraer currently has three owned U.S.-based service centers dedicated to its executive jet customers located in Mesa, AZ, Melbourne, FL, and Fort Lauderdale, FL. Further, the company has 24 authorized service centers for its executive jets across the USA.

easyJet orders additional Airbus A320neo family aircraft

Toulouse, France, December 19,  2023 – EasyJet PLC (London: EZJ) has confirmed a firm order for an additional157 Airbus Group SE (Paris: AIR) A320neo Family aircraft following shareholder approval. The firm order comprises 56 A320neo and 101 A321neo aircraft, and also includes the upsizing of an existing order for 35 A320neo into the larger A321neo. The agreement is part of easyJet’s fleet renewal and upgauging plan and is also bringing substantial sustainability improvements to its business.

Air Corsica adds two additional ATR 72-600 to regional fleet

Toulouse, France, December 18, 2023 –ATR, the world number one regional aircraft manufacturer, and Air Corsica have confirmed a firm order for two more ATR 72-600 aircraft. Air Corsica has completed the full transition of its fleet of ATR -500 series to the latest generation of turboprop aircraft from its order initially at the Paris Air Show.

The two aircraft are scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2024, at which time Air Corsica will have fully harmonised its regional fleet. The airline will have seven ATR 72-600 aircraft, powered by the latest PW127XT engines, optimising the reliability, comfort, operating costs and CO2 emissions of its connecting flights between Corsica’s four airports and Nice and Marseille and providing a high-quality public service.

Air Corsica was the first operator to take delivery of an ATR 72-600 equipped with the new PW127XT engine at the end of 2022, which brought a 20% reduction in maintenance costs and at least a 3% reduction in fuel consumption compared with the PW127M. It generates CO2 emission savings of 45% compared with a similar-size regional jet, demonstrating its commitment to operational excellence, regional connectivity and sustainability.

Virgin Australia is pleased to have reached in-principle cabin crew agreement

Virgin Australia is pleased to have reached an in-principle agreement with the FAAA and TWU on the Cabin Crew Enterprise Agreement. This is great news for our teams and our customers.

Under the new Enterprise Agreement, cost of living pressures will be easier for crew to manage, and lifestyle challenges will be easier to navigate. The agreement will deliver 15%+ salary increases over three years, depending on the skill and tenure of the crew member.

And the overall cost of this agreement is in line with the agreements we have reached with other work groups. Today’s outcome is the result of constructive negotiations with both unions, and facilitated by the Fair Work Commission. It will ensure our people are appropriately rewarded for their work and that Virgin Australia is set up for long-term success.
