Cargolux launches aerial firefighting unit

Luxembourg, 12 January 2024 – Cargolux is pleased to announce that it has launched a new business unit, Aquarius Aerial Firefighting (Aquarius AFF). This new venture marks a new chapter in Cargolux’ history.

The aerial firefighting unit will operate a fleet of 12 Air Tractor AT-802F Fire Boss aircraft which will be acquired over a three-year period. The first 3 aircraft have already been delivered. These three aircraft are expected to be ready for deployment by May 2024. Through its entrance into this activity, Aquarius AFF will alleviate some of the capacity shortfall for aerial firefighting in Europe and further afield.

Aquarius AFF aims to provide assistance in the fight against devastating wildfires that threaten human lives, natural resources and significantly contributes to global CO2 emissions. Cargolux is strongly committed to sustainability and this new venture will enable the company to lead a solution-oriented project, tackling one of the root causes of CO2 emissions.

Aquarius AFF will build on Cargolux’ experience and high safety standards to develop its aerial firefighting activity. True to its pioneering spirit, Cargolux is venturing into new territory for an all-cargo airline.

Lufthansa Group plans to hire 13,000 new people in 2024

Deutsche Lufthansa AG (Xetra: LHAG) plans to hire around 13,000 new employees for a wide range of professions in 2024. New colleagues for the cockpit and cabin, technicians and new colleagues in IT are particularly sought after. However, jobs are also being advertised in other areas, such as ground staff at the Lufthansa hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. It is planned to recruit more than 3,500 people in the cabin and around 1,000 for the cockpit. In addition, around 2,000 technicians, roughly 800 trainees and approximately 900 IT experts are to join the Lufthansa Group.

Lufthansa recruited more than 13,000 new employees in 2023. In total, over 95,000 people are currently working for the Lufthansa Group in more than 90 countries. Job vacancies and other career opportunities are available on the company career website www.lufthansagroup.careers.

LATAM group presents special collection of aircraft in South American colors

Santiago, Chile, January 12, 2024 – With the aim of celebrating the local pride of the leading airline group in Latin America, LATAM group unveiled its latest project, which involves adorning five aircraft with the respective national flag colors of the countries where the affiliates operate domestic flights.

The idea, extending throughout 2024, is to gradually introduce the five painted aircraft into the domestic flights of the affiliates. It will begin on January 11 with LATAM Airlines Brasil, debuting an Airbus A320neo in green and yellow colors, followed by planes representing the colors of the affiliates in Colombia, Chile, Peru, and finally, Ecuador.

The special paint scheme, applied by 30 workers from the Brazilian affiliate, maintains the characteristics of the LATAM logo already present on its aircraft, with only the colors being modified. The design of the LATAM Airlines Brasil A320neo started this Monday at the São Carlos facility in Sao Paulo, the largest maintenance center of the LATAM group.

Currently, the airline group has 332 aircraft, including 56 Boeing passenger planes (models 767, 777, and 787) and 256 Airbus planes (models A319, A320, A320neo, A321, and A321neo).

Additionally, LATAM Cargo has 20 cargo planes.

Delta Air Lines orders 20 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft

January 12, 2024, Herndon, Virginia – Delta Air Lines Inc (NYSE: DAL) has chosen Airbus Group SE (Paris: AIR) to meet its needs for modern efficient widebodies having placed a first order for 20 A350-1000 aircraft. The A350-1000 will be a new aircraft type in Delta’s fleet.

Delta Air Lines currently operates more than 450 Airbus aircraft from the A220 to the A350-900, with more than 200 additional airplanes on order.

European Union implements new customs procedures

Ocean Network Express (ONE) has notified customers that the European Union (E.U.) has implemented its new customs pre-arrival security and safety program, supported by an extensive advanced cargo information system known as “Import Control System 2 (ICS 2)”. This regulation will replace the current regulation ICS 1.

From June 2024, all goods moved by Maritime transportation which are destined for, or transiting the E.U., Switzerland, Norway, and Northern Ireland will be subject to new entry regulations – ICS2. Economic Operators (EOs) or Shippers will have to declare safety and 2 security data to ICS2, through the Entry Summary Declaration (ENS).

Paving the transition for ONE Customers At ONE, we are in the process of upgrading our systems to capture and process mandatory information, such as the 6-digit HS code, place of receipt and House Bill of Lading data ensuring we can support all our customers with their ENS submissions. Emirates A380 returns to Vienna, Austria

Vienna, Austria, January 9, 2024 – Emirates is welcoming the new year in Austria with great news: Starting on February 21 until the end of the winter flight schedule (March 30, 2024), the flights EK127 and EK 128 which are currently operated by a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will be upgraded to a three-class A380 aircraft, boosting capacity and adding more options for travellers to and from Vienna.

Emirates’ flight EK127 leaves Dubai at 8:55 am and arrives in the Austrian capital at 12:25 pm. The return flight EK128, departs Vienna at 3:10 pm and arrives in Dubai at 23:40 pm, with all times local.

Emirates passengers travelling from Vienna will once again enjoy the unique experience offered by the world’s largest passenger aircraft, including First Class suites and shower spas, the onboard lounge and, of course, the best international and regionally inspired cuisine. Korean Air to expand cargo SAF program with Yusen Logistics

Korean Air has partnered with Yusen Logistics, a global logistics company, to further promote the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the air cargo industry. The two companies signed a Sustainable Aviation Fuel Cooperation Program Agreement at the Yusen Logistics headquarters in Tokyo.

Yusen Logistics is the airline’s first cargo SAF partner based in Japan, and the two companies will collaborate to promote SAF usage within the Asian region in alignment with the aviation industry’s climate change goals.

In September 2023, Korean Air launched a program to use SAF for air cargo operations with air cargo customers and forwarders, a first of its kind in Korea in the air cargo industry. Customers are able to purchase SAF for air cargo operations, and Korean Air will share the carbon emissions reductions with its customers.

Korean Air is committed to cooperating with all relevant governments, clients and oil refinery companies to expedite the use of SAF and create an efficient domestic SAF infrastructure in Korea.
