United Airlines to Offer Denver Travelers More Flights to More Places

CEO Oscar Munoz and Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock celebrate 24 more United gates as part of Denver International Airport’s $1.5 billion Concourse Expansion Program

DENVER, Feb. 7, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — United Airlines today hosted an event in partnership with Denver International Airport (DEN) celebrating the recent decision from Denver City Council to approve the lease of an additional 24 gates by the airline at DEN, paving the way for local travelers to access more flights to more places than ever before. United Airlines CEO Oscar Munozjoined Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock to sign United’s proposal to amend its current lease, solidifying United’s plans to grow its Denver hub from 500 to as many as 700 daily flights by 2025. The additional gates are a combination of newly constructed and existing gates, and part of DEN’s $1.5 billion Concourse Expansion Program.

SWISS to Add 6 New Destinations From Geneva in Summer 2020

  • SWISS will be adding six attractive new summer destinations to its Geneva-based route network from 22 June. The new services will operate to and from Ponta Delgada (on the Azores), Antalya (Turkey), Menorca (Spain), Djerba (Tunisia), Dubrovnik (Croatia) and Rhodes (Greece).

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will add six new routes to its Geneva-based network next summer, serving destinations in Portugal, Turkey, Spain, Tunisia, Croatia and Greece. The additions will bring to 53 the number of points receiving non-stop SWISS service from and to Geneva.

Ponta DelgadaPonta Delgada on the Azores will be served every Monday from 22 June to 31 August. The new route will make SWISS the only airline offering non-stop flights between Geneva and the Portuguese mid-Atlantic archipelago, which is famed for its unspoilt nature and its spectacular landscapes.

Antalya SWISS will be offering a weekly Friday service between Geneva and Antalya from 26 June to 23 October. A seaside resort on Turkey’s southwest coast, the city is considered one of the country’s finest.

Menorca Menorca will enjoy SWISS services from and to Geneva every Saturday between 4 July and 29 August. A quieter alternative to neighbouring Mallorca and Ibiza, the island in the Spanish Balearics is renowned for its unspoilt natural landscapes and its fine-sand beaches fringed by turquoise waters.

Rhodes In adding the picturesque islands of Rhodes to its network, SWISS will serve no fewer than eight Greek destinations from Geneva in its 2020 summer schedules. Rhodes will receive a weekly Sunday service between 5 July and 30 August.

DjerbaSWISS will be providing a weekly Saturday service between Geneva and Djerba from 4 July to 29 August. A highly popular holiday destination, the island off the Tunisian coast is reputed for its beaches and its white desert towns.

DubrovnikDubrovnik will enjoy weekly Saturday SWISS services from and to Geneva between 4 July and 29 August. The Southern Croatian city, which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most charming in Europe with its stunning architecture and its rich cultural history.

American Airlines and Royal Air Maroc Launch Codeshare Agreement

American Airlines has launched a reciprocal codeshare agreement with Morocco’s largest airline, Royal Air Maroc, to add new options for travel to Morocco starting Dec. 26.

American’s customers will be able to purchase select Royal Air Maroc flights to Casablanca, Morocco (CMN), which will provide seamless connecting service to Marrakech, Morocco (RAK). These flights are available for sale now for travel beginning December 26. The codeshare will expand to additional cities across the African continent in early 2020.

“Royal Air Maroc is a premier African carrier and their hub in Casablanca is perfectly situated to offer our customers convenient connections between North America and over 40 destinations throughout Africa,” said Vasu Raja, American’s Senior Vice President of Network Strategy. “With Royal Air Maroc’s upcoming entry into the oneworld® alliance and our recently announced service between Philadelphia and Casablanca, we are committed to creating more opportunities for our customers to visit unique destinations in Africa.”

Beginning in early 2020, the codeshare agreement will provide American’s customers access to popular destinations in Africa, including:

  • Luanda, Angola (LAD)
  • Monrovia, Liberia (ROB)

The codeshare will also allow Royal Air Maroc customers to connect to new destinations throughout American’s domestic network beginning Dec. 26. 

American will begin seasonal service to CMN June 4 as the only U.S. carrier with nonstop service to Morocco, which will be operated three times per week. Flights are available for purchase now.

Amazon Hires Sun Country to Fly Shipments

  • Sun Country will start cargo service with a big first customer: Amazon
  • Minnesota airline will add 10 planes, 70 pilots under 6-year cargo service deal.

Amazon is hiring Sun Country Airlines to fly packages around the country, a windfall deal that thrusts the Minnesota carrier into the cargo business.

The six-year deal, announced Tuesday, will immediately create a massive expansion for Sun Country. From the first flights next spring, the new cargo service for Amazon Air will quickly grow to represent 20% of all of Sun Country’s flying.

It is the first time Amazon has hired a commercial passenger airline for air service.

Sun Country will add 10 airplanes to its fleet and hire an additional 70 pilots to its existing force of 350. The Twin Cities-based airline will also hire more maintenance workers and 20 to 30 headquarters staffers to support Amazon Air operations.

“These are pretty highly compensated positions. … We are very excited about this,” Jude Bricker, Sun Country’s chief executive, said Tuesday. “This is going to be a great growth opportunity for our company, and the important thing for the Twin Cities is it will make us a better airline for Minnesota leisure travelers.”

Amazon is hiring Sun Country to fly shipments under its Amazon Air business. The six-year deal puts Sun Country into the scheduled cargo business for the first time. It will hire 70 pilots to fly the routes.

American Airlines to Add 165 Tech Ops Positions in Tulsa

FORT WORTH, Texas — American Airlines has announced it is hiring an additional 165 aviation maintenance technicians (AMTs) and support positions in 2019, resulting in more than 1,000 new Tech Ops positions added to the company in 2019. These new jobs underscore American’s commitment to operational excellence and performing more maintenance work in-house than any other airline.

The newest positions will be at the airline’s maintenance base in Tulsa, Oklahoma called Tech Ops — Tulsa. Tech Ops – Tulsa is the world’s largest commercial aviation base maintenance facility and American recently announced 400 new Tech Ops positions to assist with additional work coming to the base.

The new team members, primarily Federal Aviation Administration-licensed mechanics, will focus on interior modifications to Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A321 aircraft to drive operational reliability and create a consistent product across American’s fleet.Previous

SWISS Adds Ljubljana to its Route Network

From 16 October onwards, SWISS will be offering a new service to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana, departing from its hub at Zurich Airport. There will be five connections a week initially, with a daily flight from 27 October.

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is to extend its route network to include a new destination, Ljubljana, from 16 October onwards. There will be five flights weekly up to and including 26 October, which will initially be operated by Helvetic Airways. With the rollout of the winter schedule on 27 October SWISS will fly to the new destination once a day from Zurich on an alternate basis with its wet lease partner, Helvetic Airways.

Prior to discontinuation of flight operations by Adria Airways, SWISS passengers were able to travel to from Zurich to Ljubljana thanks to a codeshare agreement. The new flights will ensure a continuing connection. As a result, passengers from all over the world will still enjoy smooth travel to the Slovenian capital via the SWISS hub at Zurich Airport. Passengers from Ljubljana will have access to the Swiss flag carrier’s worldwide network.

American Airlines to Raise Funding for Stand Up To Cancer

FORT WORTH, Texas — American Airlines will provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to add a loved one’s name to one of its planes in honor of those who are cancer survivors, current cancer fighters and those who lost their battle with cancer. Anyone who makes a donation of $25 or more to Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) during the month of July can add the name of a person they stand up for to an American Airlines Airbus A321. The plane, which will begin flying this fall, will be wrapped with a special SU2C design that includes names submitted.

The campaign launches July 1 with a digital and television ad featuring Stand Up To Cancer Ambassador and superstar Tim McGraw alongside six American team members from across the U.S. Tim as well as each team member in this new campaign has been personally affected by cancer, either as a survivor or a co-survivor caring for a loved one fighting the disease.

“Every family in America has a cancer story, my own family included. Too many of us have lost our parents, children, spouses and friends to this terrible disease,” McGraw said. “I’ve been so touched by the stories of the American Airlines team members I’ve met over the past month and I’m honored to lend my voice to this campaign to help create a world where all cancer patients can become long-term survivors and have more time with the people they love.”

American Adds 3 New Routes to Caribbean and Latin America

Airline also extends and increases service to region beginning this winter

FORT WORTH, Texas — The growth of American Airlines in the Caribbean and Latin American continues with the announcement of three new routes from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) beginning in November. On Nov. 21, American will launch daily service from JFK to Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ), and San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO). Saturday-only service to Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR), follows starting Dec. 21. All flights will be operated on a Boeing 737-800 with convenient schedules for a full week-long vacation or a quick weekend escape. The new routes are complemented by the extension of seasonal service between JFK and Antigua (ANU).

A trip across town to New York LaGuardia (LGA) offers even more opportunities to catch some sun. American will extend recently launched summer service to Aruba (AUA) to operate year-round beginning in December.

Also, on Dec. 18, American will add a second daily flight from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU), and the airline is extending seasonal service between DFW and San Salvador, El Salvador (SAL), to operate year-round.

All new service will be available for sale July 1.

Airline to Introduce Nonstop Service Between New York-JFK and San José, Costa Rica

JetBlue (JBLU) today announced that the airline’s operations in Houston will relocate from William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) to George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) later this year. The final day of flying at Hobby Airport will be October 26, 2019 and the first day of flying at Bush Intercontinental will be October 27, 2019. JetBlue plans to operate from Bush Intercontinental’s Terminal A.

Recognizing the needs of today’s tech-savvy travelers, Bush Intercontinental is committed to providing customer-focused cutting-edge technology, like interactive visitor kiosks and fast, free Wi-Fi and plenty of outlets and charging stations through the terminal. Bush Intercontinental also features a variety of local food favorites like The Breakfast Club, Cadillac Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar and The Hubcap Grill, all found in Terminal A.

JetBlue regularly evaluates network performance, demand and customer feedback to strengthen its focus city strategy. JetBlue today also announced it will introduce new nonstop service between New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) and San José, Costa Rica’s Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) beginning November 1, 2019 (a). Service will operate three times weekly on Fridays, Sundays and Tuesdays.

San José – Costa Rica’s capital and largest city – is home to more than 300,000 people and boasts museums, parks, cultural spots, as well as a variety of bars and restaurants. It also serves as a central jumping off point for travelers interested in hiking, visiting rain forests or exploring national parks.
