Boeing Is Killing It by Squeezing Its Suppliers

So much goes into the development of a commercial aircraft—billions of dollars, millions of work hours, rivers of sweat—that when a new model is finished, the designers like to throw a party. At the Boeing rollout of the 777 in April 1994, an event orchestrated by Dick Clark Productions, music swelled while the slogan “Working Together” appeared on a 285-foot screen before thousands of employees gathered at the doors of a massive hangar in Everett, Wash. The phrase was the organizing principle of Boeing’s engineering team and even the name of the first airplane, painted in cursive under the cockpit window. “Because we realized,” a narrator intoned, “that only by working together as a team—with our customers, our suppliers, and each other—would we build a truly great airplane.” Boeing extended its embrace of globalism with its next airplane, the 787 Dreamliner, introduced in 2011, relying on a far-flung network of suppliers that not only built but also designed many of the parts.

La Compagnie Places Order For 2 Airbus A321-NEO Aircraft

La Compagnie, an all business class airline flying between New York (Newark International) and Paris (Charles de Gaulle), announced an order for 2 new Airbus A321-NEO aircraft last month. The boutique air carrier placed the order three years after launching as an exclusively business-class airline on the 4th of July in 2014, and one year after adding a second daily flight between New York and Paris. The airline currently uses a fleet of two Boeing 757 aircraft that are outfitted with 74 lie-flat seats.

La Compagnie, French for “The Company”, is accelerating its development with the order of the two Airbus A321-NEO aircraft. The investment marks a major milestone for the still-young airline, revealing its plan for stable growth and future route expansion. Due for delivery in 2019, the new modern, efficient and eco-friendly A321-NEO aircraft will take La Compagnie’s in-flight business-class experience to a new level. The planes will be equipped with the latest in technology, Wi-Fi, and full lie-flat beds. This should allow its passengers to be well-connected and well-rested upon arrival in New York or Paris.

The airline joined forces with XL Airways in 2016, and has progressively focused on optimizing its performance across all fronts. The choice of the French aeronautical firm Airbus strengthens La Compagnie’s French spirit and philosophy that has made the carrier desirable for intercontinental passengers. The airline has always been an advocate for the French business community, and with the selection of Airbus and the A321-NEO, they are able to illuminate their French touch and travel experience.

Donald Trump and his airplane fleet

Donald Trump and his airplane fleet. Love him or hate him, Donald Trump has a very impressive fleet of aircraft at his disposal. The presumptive Republican Presidential nominee is currently on the campaign trail in his Boeing 757-200 jet. The plane has been configured to carry up to 43 passengers. Amenities include a dining room, big screen TV, guest bedroom, and master bedroom with shower. The Boeing 757 aircraft, which was assembled in 1991 and acquired by the Trump Corporation in 2010, replaced an older Boeing 727 airplane the company had been flying. The 727 had originally been operated by American Airlines. The 727 was then re-configured to seat up to 24 passengers, with two conference rooms, a crew rest area, a five seat dining room, three lavatories, a kitchen galley, and a Master Bedroom. Trump also owns and operates a single Cessna Citation X corporate jet that is configured for up to 12 passengers. There are two Sikorsky S-76B helicopters that also compliment the aircraft fleet.

Donald Trump and the Trump Shuttle

Donald Trump acquired the Eastern Air Lines shuttle operations in 1989. The shuttle operated hourly service in the northeast from New York LaGuardia Airport to Boston and Washington National Airport. The airline also briefly operated regularly scheduled flights from LaGuardia to Orlando, Florida. The life of Trump Shuttle ended up being cut short. Severe labor turbulence at Eastern Air Lines prior to the sale had already driven many passengers to the competing Pan Am shuttle service. Pan Am’s shuttle service started slowly in the market, with just 35% of the passengers. Following the Eastern Air Lines strikes prior to the shuttle sale to Trump, Pan Am’s market share had risen to 66%. Rising oil prices and an economic downturn was the final nail in the Trump shuttle coffin. The shuttle was eventually passed into the hands of US Air in December of 1991. The shuttle then pass into the hands of American Airlines, when US Air agreed to a merger in February, 2013.
