The State Department has announced that the U.S. and Cuba have signed an air services agreement. The agreement was officially signed on Tuesday, and opens up scheduled flights between the two countries. The agreement does not effect the current charter flights already being flown. Airlines interested in operating the routes must apply by March 2. Several U.S. carriers already have indicated that they will apply to D.O.T. for rights to serve Cuba.
