Saab receives Gripen order from Hungary

SAAB AB (Stockholm: SAABb) has today signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and received an order for four additional Gripen C fighter aircraft for Hungary.

This order follows an amendment to the contract between FMV and the Hungarian Government signed in December 2001 regarding 14 Gripen C/D fighters for the Hungarian Air Force. The contract amendment for the four additional aircraft was signed by the Hungarian Ministry of Defence and FMV on 23 February 2024. With this new contract amendment, Hungary will operate a total of 18 Gripen C/D aircraft to protect and defend the Hungarian and NATO airspace.

Saab currently has a contract with FMV regarding support for Hungary’s Gripen aircraft, and Saab is ready to provide additional upgrades and support for the Hungarian fighters beyond 2035.

Saab and the Hungarian Ministry of Defence have also signed an MoU regarding development of high-tech industrial areas and fighter aircraft capabilities. The cooperation includes support for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for VR technologies in Hungary.

Marathon Airlines expands Embraer pool program agreement for seven E-Jets

Amsterdam, Netherlands, October 18, 2023 – Embraer SA (NYSE: ERJ) announced that it has signed a contract amendment with Marathon Airlines for the Pool Program to include additional two E195s. Now, seven E-Jets will receive support for a wide range of repairable components – three E175, one E190, and three E195. The Greek airline started the Pool Program contract last year, with its first E175, and has seen steady fleet growth since. Currently, Embraer’s Pool Program supports more than 60 airlines worldwide.

Saab Receives Follow-on Contract for GlobalEye

Saab has today received a follow on contract with the United Arab Emirates regarding the sale of two GlobalEye systems, Saab’s advanced airborne surveillance system. The order value is USD 1.018 billion and the contract period is 2020-2025.

The original contract with the United Arab Emirates for GlobalEye was signed in 2015. This contract is an amendment to that signed in 2015.

“We are proud that the United Arab Emirates continues to show great trust in Saab and our solutions. It shows that Saab remains on the cutting edge regarding advanced technology. The GlobalEye program is running according to plan and we have an efficient cooperation with the customer”, says Micael Johansson, President and CEO Saab.

The work will be carried out in Gothenburg, Linköping, Arboga, Järfälla and Luleå in Sweden and in Centurion, South Africa. 

The contract was signed by the customer on the 30th of December 2020, hence the order was booked during the fourth quarter 2020.

GlobalEye provides simultaneous air, maritime and ground surveillance. It combines sophisticated radar technology with the ultra-long range Global 6000 aircraft from Bombardier.

ABX Air Pilots Ratify Amendment to Collective Bargaining Agreement

Air Transport Services Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATSG) said today that pilot employees of its ABX Air, Inc. subsidiary have voted in favor of an amendment to their Collective Bargaining Agreement with ABX Air.

ABX Air’s pilots are represented by the Airline Professionals Association of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 1224 (IBT).

“This affirmative vote demonstrates a renewed sense of unity at ABX Air, paving the way for us to work together toward our shared goals of growth and superior customer service,” ABX Air President David Soaper said. “I want to express my appreciation to the leadership and members of Local 1224 for their endorsement of this amended agreement. It represents a crucial step as we pursue future growth opportunities for our airline.”

The amended agreement will become effective January 1, 2021, and amendable six years thereafter. Terms of the amended agreement were not disclosed by ABX Air.

The Battle for San Antonio-Washington Reagan Flights

Political pushback from airlines and a powerful industry union has put San Antonio in a holding pattern in its quest to secure nonstop flights to Reagan National Airport near Washington, D.C.

U.S. Representatives Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, and Will Hurd, R-San Antonio, were backing an amendment to the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act that would exempt San Antonio from a so-called “perimeter rule,” which prohibits nonstop flights to Reagan from cities more than 1,250 miles away. But they withdrew the amendment last week in response to intense lobbying by key airline industry players opposing such a change.
