Fiery plane crash at Tokyo Haneda Airport kills 5 Coast Guard crew members

Toulouse, France, January 2, 2023 – Airbus regrets to confirm that an A350-900 operated by Japan Airlines was involved in an accident during flight JAL516 from Sapporo New Chitose Airport to Haneda International Airport shortly after 17:47 (local time) on 02 January 2024. All 367 passengers and 12 crew members on-board evacuated the aircraft.

The A350 collided with a DHC-8 aircraft at landing in Haneda. The Japanese authorities have since confirmed that sadly five of the six people on board the DHC-8 did not survive. The exact circumstances of the event are still unknown. The aircraft involved in the accident, registered under the number JA13XJ, was MSN 538, delivered to Japan Airlines from the production line on 10 November 2021.

In line with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13 recommendations, Airbus will provide technical assistance to the Bureau d’Enquêtes et d’Analyses (BEA) of France and to the Japan Transport Safety Board (JTSB) in charge of the investigation. For this purpose, Airbus is presently dispatching a team of specialists to assist the Authorities.

Volaris reports September 2020 traffic results, operating at 84% of 2019 capacity levels

MEXICO CITY, /PRNewswire/ — Volaris (NYSE: VLRS and BMV: VOLAR), the ultra-low-cost airline serving Mexico, the United States and Central America, reports September 2020 preliminary traffic results.

Volaris is well positioned for a continuing post Covid-19 traffic recovery and is regaining capacity at a fast pace, due to its strong ultra-low-cost business model focused on the VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) and leisure segments in the domestic and US-transborder markets. Volaris also continues to see success from its efforts to convert first time flyers through its bus switching marketing campaigns in Mexico.

In September 2020, capacity measured by ASMs (Available Seat Miles) was 84.2% compared to the same month of last year. Demand measured by RPMs (Revenue Passenger Miles) was 75.6% of last year. This represents an increase of 2.4% versus August 2020. Volaris transported a total of 1.3 million passengers during September 2020, an increase of 4.1% versus August 2020. Booked load factor for September 2020 was 74.4%, an increase of 1.8 pp versus August 2020. No shows were back to normal levels.

American Airlines Donates $100,000 to Support Australian Bush Fire Recovery

  • Airline partners with G’Day USA for Red Cross relief efforts

FORT WORTH, Texas — American Airlines donated $100,000 to help Australia recover from devastating bush fires that have burned more than 27 million acres to date. The donation, which was made through the Australian diplomacy program G’Day USA, will benefit the Australia chapter of the Red Cross.

“We are all affected by the heartbreaking images of the wildfires in Australia,” said American Airlines President Robert Isom. “American is proud to do what we can to assist in the recovery.”

This year, G’Day USA brought awareness and raised funds to assist with the Australian bush fires. The event is typically a celebratory dinner that honors the special relationship between Australia and the United States. 

American also activated the airline’s disaster response fundraising platform, where customers and team members can assist those in need. From now through Jan. 31, AAdvantage® members can earn 10 miles for every dollar donated to the Red Cross with a minimum $25 donation.

“One of the best things Americans can do to support our friends in Australia is keep their travel plans and make new ones,” Isom said. “The Australian economy relies on its tourism business and nearly all the popular sites in Australia are unaffected by the fires.”

Delta Flew 2 Million + Customers Memorial Day Weekend Without a Mainline Cancellation

As customers traveled around the globe to be with family and friends during Memorial Day, Delta worked around the clock to deliver a strong operational performance. The airline flew more than 2.1 million customers between Friday and Monday during Memorial Day weekend without a single mainline cancellation1—Friday had the highest number of enplaned customers at 666,714.

Delta’s three-day cancel-free streak came despite a number of scattered thunderstorms that challenged flights, and complements Delta mainline’s long-standing 31-day no-cancel streak. The airline also secured a 99.93 percent2 completion factor ranking, or the measure of flights operated versus scheduled, while notching an on-time arrival score of 77.7 percent2 from Friday to Monday.

This latest operational accomplishment comes ahead the airline’s busiest summer travel season, as Delta people around the world work to safely operate more than half a million scheduled mainline and Delta Connection flights in just three months, from June 1 to August 31.
