Delta builds employee diversity and inclusion strength during ‘Day of Understanding’

Core to Delta’s mission of connecting the world is our work to first reflect and respect the world. Often, misunderstanding can be one of our biggest barriers to connection.

To broaden understanding of ourselves, our world, our differences and all that we share, Delta hosted our second Day of Understanding with over 300 guests at the Delta Flight Museum in Atlanta.

The day was one pin on Delta’s map to seek diversity and promote inclusion, following Ed Bastian’s commitment to the CEO Action for Diversity & inclusion, a movement including more than 850 of the country’s leading CEOs and presidents to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Bastian hosted the event in partnership with the Office of Global Diversity and Inclusion and the Diversity and Inclusion Council.

“Our journey of diversity and inclusion at Delta is one of continuous progress. And it is not a journey we will win alone, nor a milestone that can be achieved overnight. Like the value diversity places on unique perspectives, it will take each of our unique commitments to seeing this succeed at Delta,” said Bastian. “I am personally invested in seeing Delta continue to grow and improve in this space, but it will truly take a shared responsibility from each member of the Delta family to make this a success.”

Eric Phillips, Senior Vice President – Pricing and Revenue Management and Chairman of Delta’s Corporate Diversity and Inclusion Council, added: “Diversity and inclusion is not this altruistic term. It’s a business imperative, and importantly, it’s a skill and a capability. We want to be world-class in diversity & inclusion the same way we’re world-class in operational reliability, the same way we’re world class in revenue generation, the same way that we’re world class in taking care of our customers.”

The event included a moderated training on how to have “R.I.C.H.” dialogues – which Reggie Butler, CEO of Performance Paradigms, calls conversations around race, identity, culture and heritage. Within the next 18 months, Delta is aiming to train people at every level of the organization with programs for employees and leaders at every level of the company to engage in a similar dialogue in smaller groups.“It’s our differences that add perspective and value that Delta needs,” said Keyra Lynn Johnson – Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer. “As we talk about our similarities, I don’t ever want us to overshadow that our differences are an important part of what makes Delta unique. And we are going to put those differences to work today.”

D&I teams and employees from Coca-Cola, Expedia, The Home Depot, Korn Ferry, PwC, and UPS joined Delta’s event. Special guests also included Delta Board of Directors members Kathy Waller, William “Bill” Easter, and David Taylor.

“We have heard time and time again that it is the Delta people that make [diversity and inclusion] happen. And you ought to know that that is authentically said because in the boardroom we hear it each meeting,” said David Taylor, Chairman, President and CEO of The Procter & Gamble Company.

“To create a culture that’s truly inclusive, that unlocks the potential in this room and throughout the company… it’s going to be a force to be reckoned with. More than just the best company in your industry, you’ll impact so many people.”

Save Our Malayan Tiger Campaign Set to Roar with AirAsia

SEPANG, 13 November 2019 – AirAsia has unveiled a special ‘Save our Malayan Tiger’ aircraft livery in support of the government’s campaign to save the fast-disappearing Malayan tiger.

The ‘Save Our Malayan Tiger’ livery forms part of AirAsia’s ongoing sustainability efforts to support conservation and environmental programs, and would encourage millions of people to pledge their support for the cause.

The Airbus A320 aircraft livery was unveiled by the Minister of Water, Land and Natural Resources Yang Berhormat Dato’ Dr Xavier Jayakumar alongside AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes, AirAsia Group President (Airlines) Bo Lingam and AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat here in Sepang today.

AirAsia Group Head of Global Affairs & Sustainability, Shasha Ridzam said, “Malayan tigers are a majestic symbol of strength and part of our national identity. We would never want our children to grow up in a world where the Malayan tiger exists only as an image on the coat of arms. That is why we must play our part in protecting them. I hope this new livery helps to bring the government’s wildlife conservation campaign to life.” 

AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes also added, saying, “Congratulations to the Ministry of Water, Land and Natural Resources for taking proactive measures in protecting our Malayan tigers, and we’re proud to be able to do our part in helping this campaign.”  

Minister of Water, Land and Natural Resources YB Dato’ Dr Xavier Jayakumar said, “We are proud to take the Save Our Malayan Tiger and Hutan Kita campaigns to new heights with AirAsia. The alarming decline of our national symbol is clear evidence that we need to do more when it comes to conserving our tigers. Our Hutan Kita campaign is an important cause as well, as without our forests, there will be no tigers and wildlife. We hope with AirAsia’s support, we will further raise the awareness on these important messages not just in Malaysia but in the region as well and be the vehicle of change for our tigers.”

AirAsia has also extended its support to the Ministry of Water, Land and Natural Resources’ environmental campaigns by sponsoring return flights for 10 orang asli to attend the Hutan Kita Exhibition Launch in August 2019, in addition to supporting a visit to the National Wildlife Rescue Center (NWRC) in Sungkai, Perak for its Allstars in October 2019.

AirAsia’s sustainability efforts include guest education, carbon reduction and waste management, the collection and separation of recyclable items on board and community-based tourism programmes such as JourneyD. AirAsia also fosters social enterprise initiatives across Asean through its philanthropy arm, AirAsia Foundation.

Collins Aerospace SelfPass Biometric Solution to Streamline Boarding Process at Las Vegas International Gates

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – Passengers traveling through Las Vegas’ McCarran Airport can look forward to a new streamlined journey with Collins Aerospace Systems’ SelfPass™ biometric solution. The solution, which is set to be installed at all of McCarran’s international gates, and will be available for demonstration at the Annual Airports Council International-North America conference this week in Tampa, Florida. Collins Aerospace is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

With SelfPass, there is no pre-registration required. Passengers simply step up to the camera for a facial scan to validate their identity against the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Traveler Verification Service, which retrieves their boarding details, and they then proceed to board the aircraft through the auto boarding gate.

“We have a 20-year history of successfully collaborating with McCarran Airport and we’re ready to help them streamline the passenger journey even further with expanded use of our SelfPass biometric solution,” said Christopher Forrest, vice president of Global Airport Systems for Collins Aerospace. “SelfPass takes less than one second to capture and process a passenger’s facial image and eliminates the need to repeatedly present travel documents, making the process more efficient for both passengers, airlines and airports.”

SelfPass is already live with one airline following a trial throughout the summer. Wider deployment of SelfPass is set to commence in November with the addition of a second airline. In all, 19 airlines will be operational when the installation is complete. 

In additional to SelfPass, Collins Aerospace has been a long term provider of other key solutions that improve efficiencies at McCarran Airport.
