DHL (OTC: DHLGY) Express, the world’s leading provider of express shipping services, has announced the grand opening of its Americas region hub based at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). With a focus on sustainability, the $84.5 million investment further strengthens the company’s connections and service capabilities between the U.S. and key global markets, increasing capacity, speeding transit times, and adding resilience to its network.
Spanning 100,000 square feet, the state-of-the-art hub establishes direct connections between 19 cities in the Southeastern U.S. and key global markets, including Europe and major DHL hubs worldwide. Future plans involve adding flight connections to Hong Kong, Mexico, the UK, and Puerto Rico.
The DHL Atlanta Hub also sets new standards for sustainability, generating up to 50% of its on-site energy consumption through 65,000 sq. ft of rooftop solar panels, preventing the release of 380 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually. The remaining energy consumed on-site is sourced from renewable sources through Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), guaranteeing zero emissions from electricity consumption. Moreover, the hub employs environmentally conscious features such as LED lights, electric forklifts, dock seals, and rapid rise doors, further minimizing its environmental impact.
The Atlanta hub operates as a fully automated facility, equipped with cutting-edge technology capable of sorting up to 20,000 pieces per hour. To ensure swift clearance of DHL customer shipments, the hub employs in-house Customs brokers and collaborates with on-site U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel. Additionally, DHL implements advanced threat detection and security screening technologies, effectively preventing the entry of illegal and hazardous commodities into its network.
CHICAGO (Reuters) – Delta Air Lines <DAL.N> and American Airlines <AAL.O> said on Monday they are permanently dropping domestic change fees, mirroring an announcement by rival United Airlines <UAL.O> on Sunday in a push to woo back travelers.
U.S. airlines are burning through millions of dollars daily as the coronavirus pandemic hits passenger air travel, which is hovering around 30% of what it was a year ago, forcing more customer-friendly policies to encourage people to start traveling again.
Atlanta-based Delta said the elimination of change fees is effective immediately and includes tickets purchased for travel within the United States, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. American’s change also covers flights to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
The new policies do not cover any of the three airlines’ basic economy tickets.
Low-cost rival Southwest Airlines <LUV.N> has never charged a change fee for its tickets.
Delta, United and American were already waiving change fees through the end of the year to give travelers more flexibility in an uncertain environment.
The fees represented around 2% to 3% of their total revenues in 2019, though analysts said the overall financial impact going forward will be limited as focus remains on generating bookings.
Delta collected $830 million in ticket cancellation and change fees last year, American $819 million and United $625 million, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Popular, the leading financial institution in Puerto Rico, and JetBlue (Nasdaq: JBLU), the largest airline in Puerto Rico, today unveiled their new partnership with the launch of two new credit cards for customers in Puerto Rico. As trusted brands on the island, both remain committed to the growth of Puerto Rico. With the new JetBlue Mastercard and the JetBlue Mastercard Eleva from Popular, every dollar gets cardmembers closer to traveling to the destination of their choice. Both cards provide an opportunity for customers to earn TrueBlue points – which never expire – even faster and on everyday purchases.
As an added benefit, both products offer a welcome bonus of either 5,000 or 25,000 TrueBlue points by meeting the purchase requirement during the first 90 days of opening the credit account. Both cards feature contactless technology that allows the customer to pay by bringing the credit card close to the Contactless Symbol of a payment terminal.
With this launch, the JetBlue Mastercard becomes the only travel card in Puerto Rico without an annual fee that allows customers to earn points for each purchase. JetBlue purchases will accumulate two TrueBlue points per $1 spent. All other purchases—groceries, restaurants, gasoline, etc.—accumulate one point per $1 spent.
The JetBlue Mastercard Eleva card, with a $99 annual fee, allows cardmembers to earn three TrueBlue points per $1 spent on JetBlue purchases and one point per $1 spent on all other purchases. This card also has additional benefits, such as a free checked bag for the cardmember and up to three travel companions when the card is used to purchase flights operated by JetBlue. It also provides a $100 annual statement credit on the purchase of a JetBlue Vacations package.
The TrueBlue loyalty program rewards members, regardless of their travel frequency. There are no blackout dates with all seats available for redemption, and points never expire. Members earn points for every dollar spent on the base fare for JetBlue-operated flights and bonus points by booking directly on jetblue.com, depending on the fare option selected.
