Eve’s Urban Air Mobility Simulation in Rio de Janeiro Starts in November

São José dos Campos – Brazil, October 26, 2021 – Embraer’s (NYSE: ERJ) Eve Air Mobility will begin an Urban Air Mobility (UAM) simulation on November 8th, connecting Barra da Tijuca to the Tom Jobim International Airport – RIOgaleão. The initiative, which will use a helicopter, will be carried out in cooperation with strategic partners and government entities.

The evaluation of the entire UAM ecosystem and the main concepts related to future operations will last a month, with six daily flights at a more affordable cost than a conventional helicopter service. The simulation applies prices close to those expected in the future for an electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL), also known in the market as an Electric Vertical Aircraft (EVA).

Tickets went on sale today on Flapper, an independent platform for on-demand flights. The service is available on www.flyflapper.com.br or in the Flapper app. The aircraft will be operated on the route by Helisul Aviação, one of the largest helicopter operators in Latin America. Universal Aviation, a global airport services company, will run ground operations. The concessionaire, RIOgaleão, and the Mario Henrique Simonsen Business Center (CEMHS) complete the partnership as the points of origin and destination, related to the experience.

The UAM industry intends to democratize access to the new air transport system using disruptive innovations and more affordable prices. Eve’s aircraft, scheduled to reach the market in 2026, will be all-electric and designed with a focus on users, to provide efficient and comfortable transport with low noise levels and zero carbon emissions.

The simulation is part of a concept of operation (CONOPS), started in August 2021 in Rio de Janeiro, aiming to integrate Urban Air Mobility into Brazilian airspace. More than 50 specialists from 12 institutions are collaborating on the innovative initiative, mapping the operation and service processes to identify the needs of users, the community, and other stakeholders.

The simulation, which will be monitored by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and the Department of Airspace Control (DECEA), has the support of Skyports, focused on the design, construction, and operation of vertiports; EDP, one of the largest companies in the energy sector; Beacon, the platform from EmbraerX, designed to connect industry resources, the aftermarket supply chain and aviation professionals in a more agile way; and Atech, the company responsible for the development, implementation, and support of the Embraer Group’s air traffic flow control and management systems (civil and military).

EmbraerX and Airservices Australia Release Concept for Urban Air Mobility

EmbraerX, Embraer’s disruptive business subsidiary, and Airservices, Australia’s civil air navigation service provider, have developed a new concept of operations (CONOPS) for the air taxi market, also known as urban air mobility (UAM). Going forward, Eve Urban Air Mobility Solutions, the new EmbraerX spin-off, will be responsible for this partnership with Airservices and for the development of Urban Air Traffic Management solutions.

Australia is one of the countries benefitting from this innovation revolution and is attracting industry interest and investment, largely due to strong government support and a world-leading aviation safety record. This CONOPS was created to help safely introduce and accelerate the growth of the UAM market in Australia.

This CONOPS explores new and practical concepts to safely facilitate the introduction of the air taxi industry. Using the City of Melbourne, Australia as a model, the CONOPS examines how existing air traffic management solutions can initially enable UAM operations while simultaneously preparing for scale of operations through new traffic management technologies.

The CONOPS leverages Airservices’ sophisticated simulation technology to demonstrate how air taxis could be integrated with existing airspace users in the highly complex Melbourne airspace. This level of simulation provides a scientific basis to the CONOPS.

Boeing Secures Over $800M in Middle East Training and Support Contracts

– Qatar Emiri Air Force to receive aircrew and maintenance training support for F-15QA aircraft

– Comprehensive support includes pre-delivery training and maintenance, and in-country services support

Boeing [NYSA: BA] today acknowledged three foreign military sales contracts with the U.S. Air Force for training services and support in the Middle East valued at more than $800 million.

The first previously unannounced contract was awarded in 2019 and will support the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF) with F-15QA program management, maintenance and aircrew training valued at $240 million over a five-year contract period.

Boeing also received a separate not-to-exceed $68 million contract to provide maintenance and logistics support for the QEAF during their pre-delivery training for the F-15QA aircraft, which will commence early next year. The QEAF will send pilots and weapon system operators to the U.S., where the aircrews will learn how to independently operate the F-15QA ahead of receiving their new aircraft. Training will include in-person instruction, simulation events and flying operations and will be held near Boeing’s F-15 production facility in the U.S. through mid-2021.

Following this, Boeing will establish and operate an aircrew and maintenance training center for the QEAF at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, through 2024.

A third contract awarded in November and valued at more than $500 million will provide the QEAF with in-country spares and logistics support once the aircraft are delivered to Qatar.

The F-15QA is an advanced variant of the undefeated F-15 aircraft. The Advanced F-15 features next-generation technologies that offer more speed, range and payload than any other fighter in its class. Boeing will deliver 36 F-15QA aircraft to Qatar starting in 2021.

Bane NOR and Siemens Mobility Celebrate Milestone in Digitalization of Norway’s Rail Network

Bane NOR and Siemens Mobility celebrated the opening of Campus Nyland, a test, training and signaling simulation center which will help the rail network operator prepare for the digitalization of the entire system. Norway has committed to becoming the first country to operate with a single digital interlocking and ERTMS signifies one of the country’s largest digitalization projects. In 2022, the first digital line, Nordlandsbanen, will open. In advance, the Campus Nyland center will prepare workers for working within the digital system, ERTMS. The intelligent infrastructure behind ERTMS will reduce operating costs and increase capacity throughout the network. In addition, it will enhance safety, with real-time visibility of trains across the network. When complete in 2034, the system will include 4,200 km of track and more than 350 stations.

Campus Nyland will be an industry center for digital education and will house more than 5,000 employees, who will learn the necessary digital skills needed to ensure ERTMS is successful when it goes operational. These will include individuals from Bane NOR, train companies, maintenance companies and contractors. Bane NOR will facilitate simulator training as well as physical training facilities. New technology, such as virtual reality, will be used to communicate how the tracks are built with ERTMS, as well as the design of trains and traffic control centers. More than 150 different scenarios are available for training within the highly digital training hub.

In the spring of 2020, the Roa – Hønefoss ERTMS test line opens. The new signaling technology will be monitored and tested from Campus Nyland.

The next important milestone in turning ERTMS into a reality will be the digitalization of the first Norwegian rail line. In October 2022, Nordlandsbanen, which operates from Grong to Bodø, and represents about 12 percent of the Norwegian railway will go operational.
