He has been accused of defaulting on bank loans, and is under\u00a0investigation\u00a0for violating India&#8217;s\u00a0&#8220;Prevention of Money Laundering Act&#8221;. The India foreign ministry revoked Mallya&#8217;s diplomatic passport last week\u00a0in a\u00a0move to attempt to bring him\u00a0back to face allegations that include fraud. The\u00a0State Bank of India, the\u00a0head of a\u00a0consortium of 17 lenders that forced the\u00a0grounding of Kingfisher Airlines, has petitioned\u00a0the Debt Recovery Tribunal in\u00a0India\u00a0in an attempt\u00a0to recover all\u00a0loan funds from him. The\u00a0consortium has\u00a0rejected an offer \u00a0by Mallya to partially repay\u00a0the loans for the airline that he had backed with a\u00a0personal guarantee, demanding that the former billionaire attend a hearing in the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vijay Mallya, believed to be residing in\u00a0a country residence in Hertfordshire, has stated he would comply with the law. He reportedly\u00a0left India on March 2 for the United Kingdom, and has the right to\u00a0ask\u00a0the British authorities to grant him permission to continue his stay,\u00a0or challenge India&#8217;s request to revoke his passport. The Indian government is attempting\u00a0to crack down on a rash of high profile loan defaulters.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mar_t_20\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vijay Mallya, the head of the United Breweries Group in Bengaluru, founded\u00a0Kingfisher Airlines in 2003.
