Icelandair\u00a0focuses on providing transatlantic flights that are operated through the airlines hub in Reykjavik, Iceland. The airline had focused on a single aircraft type to help streamline its costs for maintenance and training. This model had been perfected by Southwest Airlines in the US domestic market. Icelandair used the same model, but with the Boeing 757 aircraft to meet their longer flight range requirements. The Boeing 757 aircraft that are in service have become in very high demand due to their size and range capabilities. This caused the airline to look for other aircraft options\u00a0in order to expand.<\/p>\n<h2>Icelandair 767 fleet to grow from 2 to 4 planes<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first of the two previously announced Boeing 767 aircraft is now flying. The second will begin scheduled service on May 15, 2016.\u00a0The airline\u00a0just announced that it will add\u00a02 additional\u00a0Boeing\u00a0767\u00a0aircraft to its fleet\u00a0for next\u00a0summer.\u00a0The newly acquired aircraft\u00a0have been\u00a0retrofitted by Icelandair with\u00a0in-flight entertainment systems,\u00a0mood lighting, new seats, and\u00a0WiFi. The 767 aircraft will be used on routes\u00a0between Boston, Chicago, and New York\u00a0(JFK)\u00a0and Amsterdam,\u00a0Copenhagen, and\u00a0London (Heathrow). The Icelandair 767 aircraft have been fitted with\u00a0262 seats, which represents a\u00a044% increase in seating capacity over the airlines 757 aircraft.\u00a0The\u00a0Icelandair fleet is currently comprised of\u00a026 Boeing 757&#8217;s and 2 Boeing 767&#8217;s. Icelandair had agreed to purchase 4 new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, but transferred the purchase rights on 3 of those aircraft\u00a0to Norwegian Airlines. The airline\u00a0will presumably transfer the purchase right to its\u00a0fourth 787 on order as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Icelandair\u00a0currently flies to the US cities of\u00a0Anchorage, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New York (JFK &amp; Newark), Orlando, Portland, Seattle, and Washington (Dulles).
