{"id":1406,"date":"2016-06-06T01:35:01","date_gmt":"2016-06-06T06:35:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=1406"},"modified":"2016-06-06T01:36:20","modified_gmt":"2016-06-06T06:36:20","slug":"shark-week-coming-southwest-airlines-737","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=1406","title":{"rendered":"Shark Week is coming to Southwest Airlines 737"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Shark Week<\/b> is coming to a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737.<b> Shark Week<\/b>\u00a0is an annual programming ritual on the Discovery Channel. the one week block of programming was first\u00a0aired in 1988.\u00a0The show has continued to grow in popularity over the years, and is now\u00a0the longest running\u00a0show\u00a0in cable television history.<span id=\"cite_ref-2\" class=\"reference\">\u00a0It is currently being\u00a0<\/span>broadcasted in more than\u00a072 countries worldwide.\u00a0The programming was originally planned\u00a0as a way to help promote\u00a0shark\u00a0conservation efforts. Sharks are now being killed at an alarming rate.\u00a0If nothing is done to prevent\u00a0the killing of sharks, they\u00a0may very well become extinct over the next couple of decades. An estimated 100 million sharks are killed every year around the world,\u00a0with over 73 million killed each year just for the harvesting of their fins. The shark fins can be\u00a0extremely valuable, especially in regions were income levels are very low. The fins are considered a delicacy in Asian cuisine, and are mainly used in Shark Fin Soup.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Shark Week comes\u00a0to Southwest Airlines<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Southwest Airlines has unveiled its new special\u00a0Shark Week logo jet. The\u00a0Boeing 737 aircraft\u00a0will fly\u00a0with the Shark Week theme livery until the end of August. Southwest Airlines has a\u00a0partnership with the\u00a0Discovery Network, and passengers aboard this aircraft\u00a0will be able\u00a0to preview some of the featured shows that will be broadcast this year\u00a0between June 26 and July 3.\u00a0Southwest Airlines also has an additional connection with Shark Week this year. One of the new shows\u00a0premiering this\u00a0season\u00a0is &#8220;Jungle Shark&#8221;, which discusses the\u00a0bull sharks\u00a0that call\u00a0Costa Rica home. Southwest\u00a0just launched new service to that country, as the carrier\u00a0begins\u00a0to expand internationally.
