The two ride sharing companies were already providing service to passengers in Phoenix. This included service to the airport, but they were not allowed\u00a0to pick up at\u00a0the airport due to city regulations. The two providers\u00a0had been petitioning the City of Phoenix\u00a0for more than a year to add airport pickup authorization.\u00a0Travelers that previously\u00a0wanted to catch a ride on\u00a0Uber or Lyft from Sky Harbor Airport had to leave the facility\u00a0by taking the free Sky Train service over to the 44th Street station. Their they would be able to\u00a0request\u00a0a ride home. Sky Harbor is the 10th busiest airport in the country. Uber and Lyft will also announced that they will begin service at\u00a0Tucson International Airport this week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The country&#8217;s top\u00a0two ride sharing\u00a0services are cheaper than taking a taxi. To hail a ride share for pickup, the user\u00a0just opens their\u00a0mobile app and enters their location and destinations. The drivers are\u00a0independent, and use\u00a0their own personal\u00a0automobiles.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Uber Lyft leave Austin, Texas<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Uber and Lyft\u00a0continue to grow nationwide, despite recently deciding to leave Austin, Texas. That departure followed the defeat\u00a0of\u00a0a measure called Proposition 1 by voters. The\u00a0proposition would have required ride\u00a0share\u00a0drivers\u00a0to be\u00a0fingerprinted. The proposition was defeated by voters on May 8th, despite the two\u00a0ride sharing companies spending over\u00a0$8 million on\u00a0an advertising campaign. Lyft stopped\u00a0its Austin service at 5 a.m. on\u00a0the\u00a0Monday\u00a0following the vote.\u00a0Uber stopped its service as well at 8\u00a0a.m. the same day. Both companies stated\u00a0that the stronger background checks would hurt their drivers, and not allow true ride sharing to operate.
