The engine issue occurred on\u00a0Singapore Airlines Flight 368 from Singapore to Milan, Italy. Two hours after takeoff,\u00a0the cockpit crew received a\u00a0right side engine oil warning light. The\u00a0flight\u00a0returned to Singapore, and made an emergency landing\u00a0to have the issue checked out. During the landing,\u00a0the right engine caught fire on the runway, and quickly spread to the right\u00a0wing. None of the planes 222 passengers and 19 crew members were injured, but the aircraft sustained heavy damage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Emergency\u00a0services quickly responding to the incident at Singapore&#8217;s\u00a0Changi Airport . The fire was quickly\u00a0extinguished with the passengers still on board\u00a0as the aircraft sat\u00a0on a\u00a0taxiway. Nine hours later, the passengers later boarded another Boeing 777 aircraft, and were back on their way to Milan.\u00a0This is just the latest in what has become a pattern of incidents with\u00a0the popular Boeing airplanes engines.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Singapore Airlines latest with 777 engine woes<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was a\u00a0General Electric GE90-115B model engine that caught fire on the Singapore Airlines flight.\u00a0The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore has announced it will launch\u00a0an investigation into the accident.\u00a0GE is\u00a0also sending a team of\u00a0representatives to the scene to help support the airline and investigators.\u00a0The runway\u00a0that the\u00a0plane landed\u00a0on\u00a0was closed for about 5 hours following the incident. The engine fire follows two other major GE 777 engine fires over the course of the last year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A\u00a0Korean Air 777 had an engine fire on\u00a0May 27, 2016.\u00a0Smoke was reportedly seen coming from the aircrafts\u00a0left engine just as it was about to takeoff. The flight from Tokyo Haneda Airport was bound for Gimpo International Airport in Seoul, South Korea.\u00a0There were 302 passengers and 17 crew members\u00a0on board that flight. Everyone got out of the plane, but\u00a019 people were reportedly injured during the evacuation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On\u00a0September 8th, 2015, a British Airways 777 aircraft had an engine catch fire on\u00a0takeoff. The flight from the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas\u00a0was headed for London Heathrow Airport. Following the incident, it was revealed that the FAA had previously issued a warning to Boeing. That warning four years earlier was that the GE90-85B engine\u00a0had an unsafe condition. It was\u00a0discovered that the compressor could possibly disintegrate and cause an explosion. This type of explosion could potentially\u00a0propel debris at a high enough rate of speed\u00a0to\u00a0endanger the\u00a0entire aircraft. General Electric\u00a0released a statement that\u00a0the British Airways 777 had a different version of its\u00a0GE90-8FB engine.
