{"id":15637,"date":"2026-06-03T23:21:26","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T04:21:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=15637"},"modified":"2026-06-03T23:29:40","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T04:29:40","slug":"cathay-pacific-plans-to-launch-direct-flights-to-almaty-kazakhstan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=15637","title":{"rendered":"Cathay Pacific plans to launch direct flights to Almaty, Kazakhstan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span class=\"rls-date\">Story and image by Cathay Pacific<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"rls-date\">Wednesday, June 3, 2026<\/span> &#8211;<\/strong> Joining a high-level delegation led by Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) John Lee Ka-chiu to Central Asia, Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau has attended the visit to Kazakhstan, supporting efforts to explore new business opportunities for Hong Kong with emerging markets in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Affirming Cathay\u2019s ongoing commitment to growing Hong Kong\u2019s connectivity with Belt and Road countries, Cathay Pacific is pleased to announce plans to launch direct flights to Almaty, Kazakhstan\u2019s commercial and cultural capital, in the first quarter of 2027. The airline plans to operate three flights per week using an Airbus A330-300 widebody aircraft, which will be the only direct service linking Hong Kong and Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n<p>Attending a ceremony alongside President of Almaty International Airport Goker Kose and Deputy Head of the Tourism Department of Almaty Akmaral Yeshanova today, Lau said: \u201cCentral Asia is a strategically important Belt and Road region that offers ample business opportunities. As Hong Kong\u2019s home hub carrier, Cathay has aligned interests with the HKSAR Government in strengthening our connectivity with this emerging market.<\/p>\n<p>Kazakhstan is Central Asia\u2019s most developed economy with key industries including manufacturing, mining and industrial production. It is Hong Kong\u2019s largest trading partner and leading export market in the region. Meanwhile, demand between the Chinese Mainland and Central Asia has grown steadily in recent years, underpinned by trade, investment and Belt and Road activity.
