{"id":3380,"date":"2019-01-14T10:15:16","date_gmt":"2019-01-14T16:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=3380"},"modified":"2019-01-14T10:15:22","modified_gmt":"2019-01-14T16:15:22","slug":"cathay-pacific-again-sells-first-class-tickets-at-economy-rates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=3380","title":{"rendered":"Cathay Pacific Again Sells First-class Tickets at Economy Rates"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>From BBC News<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A group of lucky Cathay Pacific customers have scored first-class seats at economy prices, in the second fare blunder by the airline this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tickets on trips from Hong Kong to Portugal were sold on the airline&#8217;s website for $1,512, instead of $16,000 usually charged for a similar journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The carrier said it would honour the tickets as it investigates the cause of the error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It extends a recent run of blows to the firm including a huge data breach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mispriced fares were available on Cathay Pacific&#8217;s website on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First-class flights from Lisbon to Hong Kong &#8211; via London with a connecting flight &#8211; were offered for $1,512 (\u00a31,177), according to the South China Morning Post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A similar first-class journey through Frankfurt would cost $16,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Cathay_Pacific_rates.png?fit=640%2C499\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3382\" width=\"629\" height=\"490\" srcset=\"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Cathay_Pacific_rates.png 1920w, https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Cathay_Pacific_rates-300x234.png 300w, https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Cathay_Pacific_rates-768x599.png 768w, https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Cathay_Pacific_rates-1024x798.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 629px) 100vw, 629px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, the Hong Kong carrier said it would honour the tickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are looking into the root cause of this incident both internally and externally with our vendors,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;For the very small number of customers who have purchased these tickets, we look forward to welcoming you on board to enjoy our premium services.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just two weeks ago the airline made the same blunder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lucky flyers made off with business-class seats on flights from Vietnam to New York for about $675 return. They should have cost $16,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the time, the carrier acknowledged its &#8220;mistake&#8221; and again, said it would welcome the passengers onboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cathay Pacific to honour $16,000 fares sold for $675<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airlines have a mixed history of honouring tickets sold in error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Singapore Airlines, for example, honoured tickets sold for less than half price in 2014.
