Paris \/ Munich, 6 February 2019<\/strong> \u2013 France and Germany have \nawarded the first-ever contract \u2013 a Joint Concept Study (JCS) \u2013 to \nDassault Aviation (stock exchange symbol: AM) and Airbus (stock exchange\n symbol: AIR) for the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) programme. The \nlaunch of the JCS was announced by the French Minister of the Armed \nForces, Florence Parly, and her German counterpart, Ursula von der \nLeyen, at a meeting today in Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision by both countries represents a milestone to secure \nEuropean sovereignty and technological leadership in the military \naviation sector for the coming decades. Starting date for the two-year \nstudy is 20 February 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, said: \u201cThis new\n step is the cornerstone to ensure tomorrow\u2019s European strategic \nautonomy. Dirk Hoke, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space, said: \u201cFCAS is one of the\n most ambitious European defence programmes of the century. With today\u2019s\n contract signature, we are finally setting this high-technology \nprogramme fully in motion. Both companies are committed to providing the\n best solutions to our Nations with regard to the New Generation Fighter\n as well as the systems of systems accompanying it. We are truly excited\n about having been given this opportunity and appreciate the trust \nplaced in both our companies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This planned Next Generation Weapons System will consist of a highly \ncapable manned \u201cNew Generation Fighter\u201d (NGF) teaming with a set of new \nand upgraded weapons as well as a set of unmanned systems (Remote \nCarriers) linked by a Combat Cloud and its Ecosystem embedded in a \nSystem-of-Systems FCAS architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The JCS is based on the bi-nationally agreed High Level Common \nOperational Requirements Document (HLCORD) signed at Berlin Air Show ILA\n in April 2018 between the Defence Ministers of France and Germany as \nwell as respective national concept studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its aim is to conceptualise the different FCAS capabilities and to pave the way for future design, industrialisation, as well as an estimated full operational capability by 2040. The study will prepare and initiate demonstrator programmes for launch at the Paris Air Show in June 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
