{"id":3950,"date":"2019-03-06T07:49:04","date_gmt":"2019-03-06T13:49:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=3950"},"modified":"2019-03-06T07:49:10","modified_gmt":"2019-03-06T13:49:10","slug":"iag-says-new-norwegian-bid-unlikely-but-never-say-never","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=3950","title":{"rendered":"IAG Says New Norwegian Bid Unlikely, but &#8216;Never Say Never&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>BRUSSELS\n (Reuters) &#8211; British Airways owner IAG is unlikely to renew its interest\n in Norwegian Air after ruling out a new bid for the Scandinavian \ncarrier earlier in the year, but &#8220;never say never&#8221;, IAG Chief Executive \nWillie Walsh said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;d\n never say never, but I think it&#8217;s unlikely,&#8221; Walsh told reporters on \nthe sidelines of the Airlines for Europe summit in Brussels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IAG\n sold its stake in Norwegian when it ended its interest in the airline, \nwhich competes with IAG&#8217;s low-cost long-haul Level brand, earlier this \nyear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If  there was a case that we might have done that (renewed our interest),  we probably would have retained the shares in Norwegian,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/K66675-Norwegian.jpg?fit=640%2C361\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3953\" width=\"615\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/K66675-Norwegian.jpg 3000w, https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/K66675-Norwegian-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/K66675-Norwegian-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/K66675-Norwegian-1024x577.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><figcaption>Norwegian Air Shuttle; 737MAX-8; Air to Air; K66675<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked if Level could expand into Scandinavia, Walsh said: &#8220;It could, ultimately.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There\n are several significant markets that are underserved from a long-haul \npoint of view and can be best served by a low-cost model,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\n also said that, although he was still not interested in buying A380s, \nthose who wanted to approach him with offers after Airbus said it was \nscrapping production of the superjumbo should do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m\n not looking to buy A380s. If there are people looking to sell them, \nthey should probably approach us, because we would be one of the few \npeople who might be interested.
