{"id":40,"date":"2016-01-01T19:10:39","date_gmt":"2016-01-02T01:10:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=40"},"modified":"2016-02-15T22:58:46","modified_gmt":"2016-02-16T04:58:46","slug":"all-nippon-airways-to-buy-three-airbus-a380s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=40","title":{"rendered":"All Nippon Airways to buy three Airbus A380&#8217;s?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>All Nippon Airways is rumored to be buying three Airbus A380 aircraft in a billion dollar deal,\u00a0making it the first Japanese air carrier to fly\u00a0the superjumbo plane.\u00a0Sources say the Japanese air\u00a0carrier\u00a0plans to introduce the double deck airplane on flights to Hawaii, as well as other overseas destinations.\u00a0The company is believed to be paying about $1.23 billion US dollars total for the three planes, which have a list price of $1.3 billion\u00a0US dollars. If so, Airbus is really taking a bath on this order, in an effort to save face after failing to win any new orders for the plane through\u00a02015.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body\">ANA is losing the battle for the Hawaiian market to its\u00a0rival Japan Airlines, as JAL served more people on the Tokyo to Hawaii route (35%), compared to ANA (20%). I have a hunch, however, that this order may never actually be delivered.
