{"id":4199,"date":"2019-04-04T08:48:21","date_gmt":"2019-04-04T13:48:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=4199"},"modified":"2019-04-04T08:54:10","modified_gmt":"2019-04-04T13:54:10","slug":"icelandic-coast-guard-upgrades-to-airbus-rescue-helicopters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=4199","title":{"rendered":"Icelandic Coast Guard Upgrades to Airbus Rescue Helicopters"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Reykjavik<\/strong>, Airbus Helicopters is \nsupporting the Icelandic Coast Guard (ICG) with the entry into service \nof two Airbus H225 heavy search and rescue (SAR) helicopters as the \nfirst step in a renewal of the agency\u2019s helicopter fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aircraft are replacing two of the ICG\u2019s three existing Airbus \nAS332L1 Super Pumas, the first of which entered service in 1995. They \nare being leased from Norwegian helicopter lessor Knut Axel Ugland \nHolding AS and will both be in service by the end of April 2019. The ICG\n plans to purchase permanent replacements for all three aircraft in its \nfleet by 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airbus Helicopters is providing pilot and technician training on key \nfeatures of the H225 and ongoing maintenance and support under an HCare \nSmart Parts By the Hour contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 11-tonne category, twin-engine H225 is the latest member of \nAirbus Helicopters\u2019 Super Puma family with more powerful engines \nproviding a smoother ride and enhanced performance compared to the \nAS332L1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Equipped with state-of-the-art electronic instruments and a 4-axis \nautopilot system, the H225 offers outstanding endurance and fast cruise \nspeed, and can be fitted with a wide range of SAR equipment. Operated by\n two pilots, it can be configured with up to 18 seats or six stretchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The H225 and military H225M are benchmarks in SAR and combat SAR and are operated by 20 nations worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commander S.G. Sindri Steingrimsson, Director Flight Operations at \nthe ICG said: \u201cThe experience with our current fleet of Super Pumas has \nbeen excellent through the years. Overall they have done a fantastic job\n for us here at the Icelandic Coast Guard, in some of the most \nchallenging conditions for aircraft SAR operations in the world.
