{"id":434,"date":"2016-02-11T21:08:05","date_gmt":"2016-02-12T03:08:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=434"},"modified":"2016-02-18T23:57:43","modified_gmt":"2016-02-19T05:57:43","slug":"london-city-airport-future-may-doubt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=434","title":{"rendered":"London City Airport future may be in doubt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>London City Airport has been booming the last few\u00a0years.\u00a0Located just to the\u00a0east of the center of London, the airport that opened\u00a0in the 1980&#8217;s has\u00a0taken advantage of\u00a0being located near\u00a0the Docklands financial district. This puts corporate clients\u00a0a mere\u00a015 minutes away from the airport\u00a0terminal. However, clouds are forming on the horizon against the airports future.\u00a0A recent expansion plan was\u00a0blocked, the airport is up for sale, and the largest air operator British Airways has threatened to cut\u00a0all of its flights if a new owner raises costs. A\u00a0city\u00a0development program that\u00a0proposed\u00a0expanding the terminal to add\u00a0additional capacity at the airport was passed. The Borough of Newham then\u00a0approved the plan in January of 2015,\u00a0but it was blocked the following\u00a0February\u00a0by\u00a0London mayor Boris Johnson. On top of all this drama, the US based airport owner, Global Infrastructure Partners, put the property\u00a0up for sale\u00a0last summer for \u00a32 billion ($2.9 billion).
