The plane was severely damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 17 who sustained mostly minor injuries were admitted to a local hospital, Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury, told Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe main reason, the pilot told me, was the weather \u2013 crosswinds,\u201d he said, \u201cWhen he was trying to land&#8230; suddenly the aircraft jumped, went up and went down heavily.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A photo published by the Myanmar Times showed the plane halfway off the runway with its fuselage apparently broken. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shakil Miraj, general manager for Biman Bangladesh, also blamed bad weather for the crash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline flies between Yangon and Bangladesh\u2019s capital Dhaka four days a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A spokesman for Myanmar\u2019s Department of Civil Aviation declined to comment, saying the department had not received a report of the incident  from the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reporting by Thu Thu Aung, Simon Lewis, and Poppy McPherson in Yangon  and Ruma Paul in Dhaka; Editing by Frances Kerry and John Stonestreet<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Biman2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4548\" width=\"594\" height=\"395\" srcset=\"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Biman2.jpg 700w, https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Biman2-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 594px) 100vw, 594px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane skidded off the runway when it landed in bad weather at Yangon\u2019s international airport on Wednesday evening, injuring at least 17 people, officials said.
