{"id":6488,"date":"2019-10-31T23:07:08","date_gmt":"2019-11-01T04:07:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=6488"},"modified":"2019-10-31T23:07:08","modified_gmt":"2019-11-01T04:07:08","slug":"vietnams-vietjet-orders-20-airbus-a321xlr-aircraft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=6488","title":{"rendered":"Vietnam&#8217;s VietJet Orders 20 Airbus A321XLR Aircraft"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Oct 31 (Reuters) &#8211; VietJet Aviation has ordered 20 Airbus long-range A321XLR aircraft that the budget carrier hopes will support its international expansion as Vietnam&#8217;s aviation market heats up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>VietJet expects the first aircraft to be delivered in 2023, it said in a statement on Thursday, adding that it will be the &#8220;first carrier in the world&#8221; to operate the new long-range version of the single-aisle A320neo family jets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Industry sources said VietJet would be among the first to put the XLR into service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vietnam&#8217;s largest conglomerate in August applied to launch an airline next year, intensifying competition in one of the fastest-growing aviation markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sector includes Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific Airlines and Vietnam Air Services Co.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline also signed a separate agreement in Toulouse, France, for two A320\/A321 aircraft simulators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>VietJet&#8217;s order book for Airbus aircraft now totals 186, the airline said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In September, Reuters reported that Airbus sold 15 A321XLR jets to VietJet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airbus on Thursday confirmed that VietJet had placed a new order for 15 XLR and said another 5 would be converted to the new jet from the A321neo model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>VietJet CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao said Thursday&#8217;s order will &#8220;modernise VietJet&#8217;s fleet as we look to strongly grow our international flight network.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airline currently flies to destinations including Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, China and India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Reporting by Nikhil Kurian Nainan in Bengaluru; Additional reporting by Tim Hepher; Editing by Jason Neely and Dan Grebler)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"794\" height=\"275\" src=\"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/313.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6489\" srcset=\"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/313.jpg 794w, https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/313-300x104.jpg 300w, https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/313-768x266.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 794px) 100vw, 794px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VietJet Aviation has ordered 20 Airbus long-range A321XLR aircraft that the budget carrier hopes will support its international expansion as Vietnam&#8217;s aviation market heats up.
