The city\u00a0wants\u00a0to study the idea, as new flight plans proposed by the FAA could concentrate air traffic over the\u00a0local\u00a0neighborhoods.\u00a0The\u00a0plan would have the\u00a0departing aircraft path\u00a0along Newport Bay, keeping airplanes over open water. This plan would require a\u00a0pilots to follow a\u00a0curved departure path. The curved path plan\u00a0arose following a FAA proposal to narrow flight paths at 11 airports in Southern California.<\/p>\n<h2>Newport Beach subject to NextGen Air Traffic Control<\/h2>\n<p>The FAA proposal includes exchanging\u00a0ground air traffic control with newer satellite technology.\u00a0This new system would\u00a0allow for the programming of a precise takeoff path. The new takeoff path would require departing aircraft to stay in a precise lane, further concentrate air traffic over the neighborhoods surrounding the airport.\u00a0Home owners in the area have\u00a0complained for decades about the noise from the airport, and do not want the situation to\u00a0worsen. An \u00a0agreement brokered decades ago set\u00a0curfews and limits on noise\u00a0from\u00a0departing planes at John Wayne.
