{"id":7119,"date":"2019-12-26T13:02:11","date_gmt":"2019-12-26T19:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=7119"},"modified":"2019-12-26T13:02:11","modified_gmt":"2019-12-26T19:02:11","slug":"russias-st-petersburg-airport-expects-to-host-ryanair-others-in-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/?p=7119","title":{"rendered":"Russia&#8217;s St Petersburg Airport Expects to Host Ryanair, Others in 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>MOSCOW (Reuters) &#8211; Low-cost airline Ryanair and other budget carriers are expected to start flying from Russia&#8217;s St Petersburg airport in 2020, the Russian Transport Ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move is part of Russia&#8217;s plan to boost tourist flows to St Petersburg and will mean more competition for Russian air carriers, including national flag carrier Aeroflot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ministry said on Tuesday that Ryanair, EasyJet, WizzAir, Volotea, Air Baltic and Fly One had expressed interest in flights from St Petersburg&#8217;s Pulkovo airport, Russia&#8217;s fourth largest after Moscow&#8217;s three major hubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said the companies had applied for flights from Pulkovo, coded LED by the International Air Transport Association, to 22 countries, including Britain, Germany and France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Russia will introduce a so-called &#8220;Open Skies&#8221; regime for the companies for five years, the ministry said, allowing airlines to fly to St Petersburg without requiring the traditional bilateral inter-governmental agreements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move follows the introduction of a special electronic visa system for tourists visiting St Petersburg which nationals from 53 countries can take advantage of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Reporting by Gleb Stolyarov; Writing by Andrey Ostroukh,; Editing by Andrew Osborn and Ed Osmond)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/st-petersburg-airports.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7120\" srcset=\"https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/st-petersburg-airports.jpg 800w, https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/st-petersburg-airports-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/planesintheair.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/st-petersburg-airports-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Low-cost airline Ryanair and other budget carriers are expected to start flying from Russia&#8217;s St Petersburg airport in 2020, the Russian Transport Ministry said.
