This is on top of the\u00a0order of 40 737-700 aircraft announced on January 22 of this year. United Airlines will begin receiving the airplanes\u00a0starting in late\u00a02017.\u00a0The additional new aircraft will allow\u00a0the airline to continue moving towards\u00a0a fleet of\u00a0bigger\u00a0aircraft for its\u00a0regional fleet. United plans\u00a0to have less than 100 of\u00a0its 50 seat planes\u00a0by the end of 2019. This order is another blow to Bombardier, as the Canadian aircraft maker was vying for this order with its new C Series jet. The C Series program has cost Bombardier billions of dollars so far, landing just a small handful of orders to date.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">United Airlines fleet renewal plans<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">United Airlines is stepping up its fleet renewal plans. The airline recently\u00a0announced\u00a0plans to\u00a0retire its 747 fleet from service by the end of 2018. The airline also stated that it will convert\u00a0an existing order for 25\u00a0787 aircraft to an order\u00a0of 4 777-300 Extended Range models\u00a0and 5\u00a0787-9\u00a0planes to be delivered starting\u00a0in 2017.\u00a0These aircraft will be used to replace the\u00a0747&#8217;s slated for retirement. United Airlines fleet renewal plans also include firm orders for 35 Airbus A350&#8217;s, 153 Boeing 737&#8217;s, 10 Boeing 777&#8217;s, 27 Boeing 787&#8217;s, and 10 Embraer E175 aircraft for its\u00a0United Express partners. In other news,\u00a0United Airlines\u00a0Chief Executive Officer\u00a0Oscar Munoz will return to work next week following his successful heart transplant surgery five months ago. Munoz took over the top spot at United Airlines following a\u00a0scandal\u00a0involving the air carriers dealings with the Port Authority of New York &amp; New Jersey.
