The Linq\u00a0Hotel was briefly called The\u00a0Quad following the acquisition of the property formerly called the Imperial Palace. The property was purchased by Harrah&#8217;s\u00a0<span id=\"Renamed_as_Harrah.27s_Entertainment.2C_Inc.\" class=\"mw-headline\">Entertainment<\/span>, which then changed its name to Caesars Entertainment in November of 2010. The change in company name was intended to capitalize on the larger international name recognition that\u00a0the Caesars name commanded. The Imperial Palace had been\u00a0best known for it&#8217;s famous auto collection\u00a0located on the 5th floor of the hotel parking garage. I remember visiting this car collection back in the 1980&#8217;s, but had since forgotten about it among the massive expansion of the Las Vegas strip over the past two decades.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Conversion to The Linq Las Vegas Hotel and High Roller<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In July 2014, Caesars officially announced that the Quad would again be rebranded as The Linq Las Vegas Hotel &amp; Casino. This was after the completion of a\u00a0$223 million renovation of the hotel property. The name change\u00a0aligned to hotel to match\u00a0the adjacent shopping strip and\u00a0High Roller observation wheel. The High Roller was officially announced in August of 2011<sup id=\"cite_ref-10\" class=\"reference\"> <\/sup>as the centerpiece of\u00a0Caesars\u00a0$550 million Linq shopping plaza. Currently the world&#8217;s tallest ferris wheel, it comes in at 520 feet, 9 feet taller than the Singapore Flyer.\u00a0There are 28 passenger capsules mounted on the wheel, each\u00a0accommodating up to\u00a040\u00a0passengers per\u00a0cabin. The wheel is illuminated at night by a 2,000 LED lighting system<sup id=\"cite_ref-forbes20140304_19-0\" class=\"reference\"> <\/sup>displaying\u00a0multiple colors moving around the rim.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0Even with the improvement of the Las Vegas economy over the last few years, the casino operating unit of Caesars Entertainment filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January of\u00a0\u00a02015.
