The plane was on its way to Cairo\u00a0from Alexandria in Egypt.\u00a0The motive for the hijacking is currently\u00a0unclear, but at this point it\u00a0has not been confirmed to be\u00a0related to any organized terrorist group. The man in control of the<strong>\u00a0Hijacked EgyptAir plane<\/strong>\u00a0has not been identified. The hijacker has reportedly requested that an envelope he was carrying be delivered to a\u00a0woman who lives in Cyprus. There are also conflicting accounts of\u00a0the number of passengers and crew that were\u00a0aboard the airplane, but it is\u00a0believed to be\u00a0somewhere between 62 and\u00a086\u00a0people. Around 56 passengers were later released from\u00a0the Airbus A320\u00a0aircraft.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Hijacked EgyptAir plane still holding 7 people<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Many hours after the plane arrived\u00a0in Cyprus, three passengers and four crew members are reportedly still being held on\u00a0the aircraft.\u00a0Sky News\u00a0Europe has stated\u00a0that the flight departed\u00a0at 8 o&#8217;clock in the morning from Alexandria, Egypt. About 30 minutes after takeoff, the hijacker managed to\u00a0seize\u00a0control of the plane. The hijacker then\u00a0contacted the control tower in Lanarka, Cyprus, and requested\u00a0permission to land.\u00a0The\u00a0Israeli military \u00a0scrambled several fighter jet aircraft to protect the nations\u00a0airspace as a precautionary response.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This hijacking comes just\u00a0five months after a Russian airplane\u00a0crashed over the Sinai Peninsula\u00a0in\u00a0Egypt, killing all 224 passengers on board the plane. The cause of that crash has been\u00a0linked to a terrorist group\u00a0that claims to have brought down the plane with an explosive device. This incident also comes just one week after terrorists struck the airport and a Metro station in Brussels, Belgium.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Update:<\/strong> The man who hijacked an\u00a0EgyptAir flight\u00a0from\u00a0Alexandria to\u00a0Cairo\u00a0has released the remaining passengers and crew. He has left the aircraft and\u00a0surrendered to police.
