The innovation allows power to be returned to the batteries\u00a0when\u00a0the train breaks, reducing the overall amount of energy consumed and protecting the\u00a0\u00a0environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\u00a0news is the latest in a number\u00a0of announcements\u00a0from the global mobility firm as\u00a0expands its\u00a0sustainability credentials and its zero-carbon offer to its customers around the world. Hitachi recently\u00a0announced\u00a0the trial\u00a0of\u00a0a battery train in the UK\u00a0and\u00a0delivery of hybrid trains in Italy, having built one\u00a0of the world\u2019s first battery powered train fleets that operates in Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hitachi has\u00a0a rich heritage of building trams and tramways in Europe and in Asia, and is involved in\u00a0new\u00a0tram\u00a0and metro infrastructure projects in the Americas and\u00a0in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrea Pepi, Head of Sales and Projects Italy, Hitachi Rail\u00a0said:\u00a0&#8220;Our\u00a0aim\u00a0is to use our technology\u00a0and our work to help build a sustainable society and contribute\u00a0to the well-being of people around the\u00a0world by\u00a0improving their quality of life.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is\u00a0a key\u00a0milestone\u00a0as we\u00a0pioneer this new technology that allow us to work with our customers\u00a0to reduce infrastructure costs while still offering environmentally-friendly public transport. Battery-powered trams can revolutionize this type of service within\u00a0cities. Public transport, especially in historic centers, will have to be less impactful and increasingly\u00a0sustainable.
