The German luxury luggage company Rimowa, known for its aluminum grooved body luggage, has begun plans to re-manufacturing the famous Junkers F-13 airplane that was originally built of the same metal. Rimowa announced it will build the aircraft in Switzerland, with the first flight currently scheduled for March of 2016. The original single engine Junkers F13 was the world’s first all metal commercial passenger airliner. More than 330 of the original airplanes were built, with only five left today in various museums around Europe. To build the replica, The project team planned the new plane from a 3D scan it took of an existing Junker F-13 in Paris. The new versions will be powered by a single Pratt & Whitney R-985 radial engine with 450 horsepower. The cost of buying one of these re-designed Junkers F-13’s will cost you around $2.2 million.
