Superstar Dirk Nowitzki launches partnership with Lufthansa

Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, August 6, 2024 – NBA basketball legend, Dirk Nowitzki, is the face of the new Deutsche Lufthansa AG (Xetra: LHAG) Allegris advertising campaign. Born in Germany, Nowitzki played his entire NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks in the United States.

In the campaign film, the 2.13 metre tall Dirk Nowitzki can be seen sleeping in the 2.20 metre long bed of the new Allegris Business Class. Lufthansa Allegris offers a completely new travelling experience on long-haul flights that is unrivalled on the market due to the variety of seats. All travel classes, from Economy to Premium Economy, Business and First Class, will have new cabin interiors and new seats. For example, in Business Class, passengers can choose between five different seat options, including a suite with doors, a personal wardrobe and a small minibar. Vietjet Air picks Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines for A330neo

Singapore Air Show, February, 2024 – Vietjet Air has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus Group SE (Paris: AIR) for the purchase of 20 A330-900 widebodies. When the order is finalized, the aircraft will be operated on the carrier’s growing long range network, as well as on high capacity regional services. They will replace the carrier’s current fleet of leased A330-300’s, as well as providing for network expansion.

Rolls-Royce (LSE: RR) today announces a commitment by Vietjet Air for 20 Trent 7000 powered A330neo, which will complement the airline’s existing widebody fleet of seven Trent 700 powered A330ceo aircraft.

With a laser focus on sustainability, Vietjet Air has committed to the A330neo/Trent 7000 combination as it delivers a 14% better fuel burn per seat, whilst significantly lowering emissions. The reduction in emissions will allow the airline to avoid more than one hundred thousand tons of CO2 over the lifetime of each aircraft.

The Trent 7000 draws on the technology and experience of the most advanced family of engines in the world. As the latest member of the Trent family, the Trent 7000 is based on Trent XWB technology and has delivered exceptional reliability since its entry into service.

Saab receives Gripen order from Hungary

SAAB AB (Stockholm: SAABb) has today signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and received an order for four additional Gripen C fighter aircraft for Hungary.

This order follows an amendment to the contract between FMV and the Hungarian Government signed in December 2001 regarding 14 Gripen C/D fighters for the Hungarian Air Force. The contract amendment for the four additional aircraft was signed by the Hungarian Ministry of Defence and FMV on 23 February 2024. With this new contract amendment, Hungary will operate a total of 18 Gripen C/D aircraft to protect and defend the Hungarian and NATO airspace.

Saab currently has a contract with FMV regarding support for Hungary’s Gripen aircraft, and Saab is ready to provide additional upgrades and support for the Hungarian fighters beyond 2035.

Saab and the Hungarian Ministry of Defence have also signed an MoU regarding development of high-tech industrial areas and fighter aircraft capabilities. The cooperation includes support for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for VR technologies in Hungary.

Eve Air Mobility and SkyScape announce first urban ATM agreement in Japan

Singapore – February 20, 2024 – Eve Air Mobility (NYSE: EVEX) and SkyScape, a Japanese vertiport development and management company headquartered in Osaka, Japan, have announced an agreement to use Eve’s Urban ATM (air traffic management) as a part of the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) concept of operations published by the Japanese government. The announcement makes Skyscape Eve’s 13th Urban ATM customer and it becomes its sixth Urban ATM vertiport customer as the company continues to grow its business globally.

Eve’s Urban ATM software solution is a key enabler to the efficient implementation and scalability of urban air mobility (UAM) by providing services for air navigation service providers, urban authorities, fleet operators, vertiport operators, and other UAM stakeholders. The solution includes UAM flight coordination, vertiport automation airside support, airspace flow management and conformance management.

As part of the agreement, the two companies will collaborate in a number of different ways including promoting Urban Air Mobility in Japan and the test and trial of Urban ATM software including data collection and sharing. The companies will also work together on showcasing eVTOL design and testing, vertiport design, operation certification and future autonomous operation development at SkyScape locations including their planned country research site known as the “Integrated Aviation Center” (IAC) when it opens in the future.

Southwest Airlines expand technical operations facility In Phoenix

Dallas, Texas, February, 2024 – Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) is celebrating the completion of a multi-year, $100 million project, which nearly doubles the size of the airline’s maintenance hangar at Phoenix Sky Harbor. The 90,000-square foot expansion adds three new aircraft bays to the facility, allowing the airline to work on up to five aircraft simultaneously and brings more maintenance shops to support the nearly 500 Southwest® Technical Operations Employees based at Sky Harbor. The project also included a larger facility for members of the airline’s Provisioning and Ground Support Equipment Maintenance Teams that opened in 2020.

The expanded hangar has also achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification. The expansion incorporated sustainable design features including the use of recycled content in over 30% of the building materials; the installation of high-reflectance roof and surrounding paving materials to reduce heat island effect; and the selection of building products from manufacturers with verified environmental performance.

Southwest Airlines® first opened a Technical Operations base at Sky Harbor in 1986. In 1993, the airline moved into a new maintenance hangar facility to support its growth throughout the western half of the United States. Today, the carrier’s Phoenix-based Technical Operations Teams accept new aircraft deliveries to prepare them to enter revenue service and maintain aircraft as part of daily and scheduled maintenance programs.

In addition to Phoenix, Southwest operates hangar facilities in Atlanta, Chicago (Midway), Dallas (Love Field), Denver, Houston (Hobby), and Orlando. Construction is underway on a new hangar facility at Baltimore/Washington International Airport, which is anticipated to open in 2025.

Pratt & Whitney expands site at Eagle Services Asia facility in Singapore

AMSL Aero welcomes government support for vertiia aircraft to fight bushfires

Sydney, Australia, February 19, 2024 – Australian zero emission aircraft designer and manufacturer AMSL Aero today welcomes the Australian Government’s move to back the development of its zero-emission aircraft Vertiia to fight bushfires autonomously in an effective, efficient way that keeps firefighters safer and enables nighttime firefighting.

AMSL Aero will use the A$3 million in funding from the Cooperative Research Centres’ Projects program to develop a remotely piloted version of Vertiia, the world’s most efficient long range zero emissions electric Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft, that is capable of effectively spraying preventative fire retardant and dropping hundreds of litres of water.

AMSL Aero will work with its partners to develop a method of operating autonomous remotely piloted VTOLs for aerial firefighting, modify a prototype Vertiia for use as zero emissions low-cost firefighting aircraft, meet regulatory requirements, and test the aircraft in regional Australia. Its partners on the project are The University of Sydney, leading robotics company Mission Systems and Australian firefighting aviation operator Pay’s Air Service, which conducts firefighting operations in Australia and Europe every year, including in Greece, where it recently fought fires for NATO.

Milan court rules in favor of ryanair online distribution model

Milan, Italy, February 14, 2023 – Ryanair Holdings PLC (Dublin: RYA), Europe’s No.1 airline, today welcomes the judgments of the Milan Court of Appeal conclusively rejecting Lastminute and Viaggiare’s claims that Ryanair’s exclusive online distribution model constitutes an abuse of a dominant position.

Ryanair has long campaigned to protect customers from price gouging by OTAs who continue to dupe unsuspecting consumers by unlawfully scraping Ryanair’s website, including by overcharging for air fares and ancillary services, using fake customer accounts, fake customer payment cards and fake customer emails. This can be hugely detrimental to customers who, apart from being overcharged, cannot access their Ryanair bookings, make the necessary security declarations, access refunds, or receive direct email communications (such as online check-in reminders) from Ryanair. This historical and precedent-setting Court ruling is a major step forward in protecting unsuspecting consumers from being overcharged by OTAs, and will help to ensure that Ryanair customers always get the lowest fares, the best customer service, and real time email communications.

Ryanair has recently concluded pro-consumer deals with the OTAs Love Holidays and Kiwi so that they can market our flights to their customers, without hidden mark-ups and with full transparency for passengers to protect them against overcharging.
