US Navy Awards Boeing $2.5 Billion Contract for 20 More P-8A Aircraft

Boeing has announced that it will further supply the US Navy and Royal Australian Air Force with 20 additional P-8A Poseidon aircraft. This follows the announcement of a new $2.5 billion government order. The contract is for 16 more aircraft for the US Navy, and 4 more for the Royal Australian Air Force. The RAAF already had 4 P-8A aircraft on order from a contract awarded in August of 2015. Boeing stated that they continue to hear positive feedback from its customers about the incredible capabilities of the P-8A aircraft. Deployed squadrons have informed Boeing that the planes are exceeding all expectations. Boeing currently has orders to build 78 Poseidon airplanes total for the Navy, and 8 more for Australia. The plane is based on Boeing’s Next-Generation 737-800 commercial airplane, and includes the most advanced anti submarine, anti surface, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities.
