Following the approval of construction for a 6th runway at the Chicago O’Hare Airport, American Airlines has announced that it will build 5 new gates at the airport. American Airlines will pay all of the costs associated with the gate construction project, which are estimated to be between $55 million and $75 million. Construction of the new gates is planned to be completed by the end of 2018, with the new runway at the airport scheduled to open sometime in 2020. Construction of the new $1.3 billion runway will begin in May, and city officials have said that they are negotiating for additional new gate construction with other airlines, as well.
